You can’t always be there. We can.
It’s Mom’s Home was created to help Virginia Beach families keep a trusted local eye on Mom or Dad’s home. Through Home Watch and ongoing Home Stewardship, we help families stay informed about the property, document changes, and maintain continuity over time.
Families put a great deal of thought into helping Mom or Dad remain comfortable, independent, and supported at home.
But there is another part of aging in place that can be easy to overlook: the house itself.
Homes have systems to maintain, service histories to remember, contractors to keep track of, seasonal needs, and small changes that may not be obvious to a family member who is not there regularly.
Mom may be doing fine. But what about the house?
It’s Mom’s Home was created to help families answer that question.
My background has kept me closely involved with residential homes and with families navigating changes later in life.
Over the years, I began noticing a recurring gap. Families often had people who could help Mom personally, and they usually knew who to call when something in the house broke. What they did not always have was someone consistently paying attention to the home itself.
The family might already have an HVAC company, plumber, electrician, lawn service, cleaner, roofer, or handyman. But no single person necessarily knew the history of the property, noticed changes over time, kept useful information organized, and communicated that information back to the family.
That is the role It’s Mom’s Home was designed to fill.
It’s Mom’s Home provides Home Watch and Home Stewardship for Virginia Beach families helping an aging parent remain in their home.
We make scheduled property visits, observe readily visible conditions, document changes when appropriate, maintain an ongoing record of the home, and keep the designated family contact informed.
When something appears to deserve professional attention, we can also help facilitate communication with qualified local home-service professionals.
Home Watch is part of the service. Home Stewardship is the larger relationship.
We keep our role straightforward.
Observe. Document. Communicate. Facilitate.
We observe the property for readily visible changes or concerns. We document what we see when appropriate. We communicate with the family. And when professional attention may be needed, we help connect the right people.
The homeowner or authorized family member remains in control and makes the decisions about the property.
Home Stewardship is not about inserting another layer of control between Mom, the family, and the people who already care for the home.
It is about continuity.
Someone local knows the property. Someone remembers what was there before. Someone keeps the family informed when something changes.
You don’t need someone to take over Mom’s home. You need someone you trust to keep an eye on it.
One of the most valuable parts of Home Stewardship is continuity.
Through the Initial Home Baseline and ongoing visits, we begin building Mom’s Home Record — an organized history of major systems, service providers, important property information, observations, repairs, and items the family may want to continue watching.
The goal is simple: when a question comes up about the house, the family has a better place to start than memory alone.
It’s Mom’s Home focuses on the house and property.
We do not provide medical care, nursing services, companion care, medication assistance, transportation, or supervision of the person living in the home.
We also do not perform professional home inspections, diagnose building systems, perform contractor work, supervise repairs or construction, or approve work on the homeowner’s behalf.
When professional services are needed, the homeowner or authorized family member chooses the provider, authorizes the work, contracts with the provider, and pays the provider directly.
It’s Mom’s Home is designed for families helping Mom, Dad, or both remain in an established Virginia Beach home.
Some adult children live nearby but have demanding careers and families of their own. Others live in Northern Virginia, Richmond, North Carolina, or across the country.
Distance is not always the problem. Sometimes the problem is simply that no one person has the time to maintain a consistent view of what is happening with the house.
Our job is to help provide that continuity.
It’s Mom’s Home serves Virginia Beach families, with an initial focus on established communities including Thoroughgood, Great Neck, Alanton, Broad Bay, Bay Colony, and the North End.
Being local matters because the value of Home Stewardship is not simply making a visit.
It is knowing the home over time.
